About Our School

Barnette Elementary School is located in Huntersville, North Carolina as part of the Northwest Learning Community in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.  We presently serve 706 students in pre-K through fifth grade and have 81 staff members.

Our school is named in honor of B. Alexander Barnette, Sr., a life-long resident of Huntersville.  His land ownership included a parcel that was granted from the King of England before the Revolutionary War.  His lineage can be traced back to the locally historical Alexander and Davidson families.  A Bear is our mascot with the noble characteristics of being strong, brave and independent. Our school colors are blue, red, and white.

Our Mission:

Every student will make a year and a half of growth.

Our Vision:

B.E.S.T. Believe, Engage, Succeed, Together!

Our Shared Beliefs:

  • Our school provides a safe, nurturing environment where all students feel respected for their differences.

  • A positive attitude is essential for an effective learning community.

  •  Students learn best in a nurturing environment where individual learning styles are supported through differentiation of instruction.
