How to log into a Chromebook

Open the lid and let the Chromebook come on by itself; you do not need to press the power button.

On the first screen, click on the link that says, “Enter Google Account info”

Click Next

Enter the student's ID number. The rest of the student email (@cms.k12.nc.us) is already populated in the box.

Click Next

Enter the student’s Google password. Be sure to use a capital C, and do not include spaces

5th: CmsxYYYYMMDD  (YYYY=birth year, MM=birth month, 2 digits, DD= birth date, use a capital C, be sure to include the lowercase ‘x’

*** This is their Google Account information/login username and password!

Click Next

If you are logging in away from a CMS property, somewhere in the login process you will encounter a second step to connect to the CMS server. It is called Zscaler.

Zscaler (green box) Username:

User name/email: ID#@student.cms.k12.nc.us 

Example: 123456789@student.cms.k12.nc.us

The login process is complete. You are ready to use your device.

Getting to Canvas

One way to access Canvas is to click on the “CMS Bookmarks” link located in the top left-hand corner of your screen under the address bar.

Choose Canvas

Choose “Log in with Google”

Choose “Go to Canvas Login Portal”

Choose your course from the Canvas Dashboard.

Getting to Google Classroom

After you have signed into your Chromebook or into your school Google account on a different device, click on the 9 dot array found in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Choose Google Classroom.

Username: Student ID# ( enter ONLY the student ID#, not ‘@student.cms.k12.nc.us’)
