Dear Lake Wylie Families,Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! As we begin a new year together, I want you to know I am honored to be the principal and continue the great work we have already started together! This year will be an unprecedented year with many unknowns. The unknowns and changes to what we know about school and education will not stop us from continuing to work with all students to help them reach their fullest potential. This year our theme will be “We will Soar with a Growth Mindset!” I want our staff to model the idea of having a Growth Mindset. With all that we are facing across our nation, we need to adapt to change and be flexible. I want our students to develop a Growth Mindset that enables them to look past challenges and see the potential they have to learn new concepts. I want them to know and use the words “Not Yet” to describe concepts they have not learned but are working towards mastering. Lake Wylie has a strong community support system that is committed to ensuring that each student is provided with the necessary tools to be successful. In order for each child to be successful, it will be important that we work together. We need our parents, guardians, aunts, uncles, grandparents, community partners, and educators all working together to make a difference in each student’s learning. It will take a “village” to teach our students this year. I need every family to show good faith effort in helping your child be prepared for success. We are here to support our parents during these times to create schedules at home, access technology, navigate Canvas, and much more! There is a strong sense of community and school pride at Lake Wylie. I want to continue to strengthen the relationship between our school, parents, and community. My goals as the Instructional Leader at Lake Wylie is to ensure that the educational experiences that we offer your child on a daily basis will extend far beyond textbook knowledge and educate the whole child, because that is what I would hope for my own children. My vision is to see that every child has an engaging, relevant learning environment that challenges them to succeed beyond their own expectations. At Lake Wylie we will provide rigorous learning experiences that will enable your child to think critically, have opportunities to become an excellent communicator, and a productive, caring community member. We will have a strong focus on character education and increase our use of technology to better prepare our students for the 21st century. As educators, we will continue to reflect and refine our instructional practices through data analysis. We will use assessment data to inform our teaching practices and implement research-based approaches that are differentiated to meet the needs of your child. It is important for parents to be informed of school events, changes in the schedule, and school wide initiatives that are taking place. I want to encourage you to be actively involved and know what is happening within the school. We will communicate with parents through our weekly connect ed messages, Website, email blasts, monthly calendars, and parent communication newsletter. The student agenda also has a student handbook with policies and procedures for our school. The more you are informed about what is happening the more you can help your child at home and be involved with the school! Working together, I know we can make this a year of Excellence at Lake Wylie Elementary School! Yours in Education, Jigna Patel, Principal |
