Welcome

Dear Lake Wylie Families,

Welcome to Lake Wylie Elementary, home of the Pirates!  We are a neighborhood school serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade.  Our mission is to maximize academic achievement by equipping all students with 21st-Century skills in a safe, positive learning environment.  Our vision is to prepare all students to be contributing members of a global society.  Lake Wylie is committed to improving academic achievement for all students.  In fact, students continue to make growth in all academic areas. We recognize students in all grades through our AARGH awards.  We also recognize students for displaying positive behavior.

We have opportunities for students to join afterschool cubs and be leaders within the school day.

The success of our students is the shared responsibility of the home, school, and community.  Lake Wylie is fortunate to have a motivated and involved community support.  We have strong partnerships with local businesses and our faith-based community.  Our volunteers consistently support our students and staff.  We have reading buddies and lunch buddies that support our school.  Community volunteers come into our school to provide one-on-one support to our students.

Finally, I would like you a little about me.  I graduated from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.  I earned my Master’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Michigan Ann-Arbor.  After teaching for several years, I went to Wingate University to obtain my license in school administration.  I taught fourth grade at Pineville Elementary for six years.  Then I had the opportunity to serve as the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Lake Wylie Elementary for the past 12 years.  I am excited to continue my journey in education as principal of our school!

As a principal, I am committed to providing the best education possible to each of our students and I believe that every child can succeed in school.  Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns at 980-343-3680 or via email at jigna.patel@cms.k12.nc.us.

Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Lake Wylie Elementary.
