About Our School

Long Creek Elementary School is a community and creative arts magnet school located in northern Mecklenburg County. It has a rich history that dates back to 1923.

When the school was built in 1923, it housed first through eleventh grades and became an elementary school during the 1950’s.  The school then grew to five older buildings as well as our new state-of-the-art facility which opened in August 2009 and is located on 23 acres of land. The original school now houses Trillium Springs Montessori.

Currently, Long Creek has approximately 520 students enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade. There are 29 classroom teachers and several support staff members (Encore, English Learner, Exceptional Children, and Talent Development Teachers as well as Instructional Assistant In 2018 Long Creek became a Creative Arts Magnet school in partnership with A+ Schools. As a Creative Arts Magnet, students are exposed to the arts in their Encore classes and classroom teachers use the arts to teach core curriculum.

The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) provides significant monetary and volunteer resources to the school.  We are fortunate to have a strong, active base of parent and community volunteers.  Parents are encouraged to volunteer through a variety of opportunities provided by the school itself and the PTO.  Together, they offer many ways to provide valuable service to Long Creek School.  Below is a list of some ways our volunteers are involved:  beautification, book fair, corporate sponsor, hospitality, room parents, classroom volunteers, tutoring, school spirit, and staff appreciation.

All parents need to register as a CMS volunteer in order to serve in your child’s classroom, chaperone on field trips, eat lunch on a regular basis with your child, or interact with students in any way on campus.  You must enroll and be approved through the CMS Volunteer Management Screening System: www.cmsvolunteers.com.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.  As a new family to the area or one that may be looking for a change in schools, I encourage you to stop by and see if Long Creek is a fit for you and your child.  We hope that you will get some useful information from our site and possibly visit Long Creek in the near future.
