2014-2015 School Year Reading Theme: Read to Succeed

1st quarter – Community Helpers Read

2nd quarter – Heroes Read

3rd quarter – Reading is Innovative

4th quarter – Reading is Entertaining

Beginning 2013-2014, AR will only be used with our Kindergarten through second grade students.

We use a web-based version of Renaissance products which allows you to access your child's AR progress at home!  We have over 110,000 AR tests available for students!  Our students also take Vocabulary Tests to improve their word banks and Literacy Skills Quizzes to increase higher level thinking skills.  You can find out if a book has an AR test by going to the AR Book Find website.

K-2 AR EXPECTATIONS

We encourage our students to:

  • Read every night for at least 30 minutes.
  • Take AR tests regularly.
  • Score 90% correct or higher on all tests.  Research tells us that high scores on AR quizzes are associated with large gains in reading achievement.  However, research also shows that students who gain the most in reading ability have an even higher average.
  • Meet his/her AR goals set by the teacher each quarter.  This includes percentage correct and total points.

Click here to visit Home Connect.  Your login information is your child's login and password.

You can find our AR books at the following public libraries: Mountain Island, University City, Beatties Ford Road, Coulwood, and North Regional at exit 25.  We encourage parents to help their child to select books in their reading range.  If your child does check a book out of the public library, please remember he/she may only take test on books in his/her AR range.
