About the counselor:

Mrs. Parker is from Hamlet, NC, and has been an elementary school counselor for 6 years. She is in her second year as the elementary school counselor at MILA. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at Dress for Success to support disadvantaged women entering the work force, spending time with her family, decorating, shopping, and engaging in personal fitness.

What Does a School Counselor Do?

School counselors advocate for students. We work to address the needs of all students by collaborating with parents, school staff and the community to improve academic achievement, personal/social development, and age appropriate career planning.

Student Services Staff Provide:

* Classroom guidance lessons

* Individual counseling

* Small group counseling

* Crisis counseling

* Academic advisement

* Career exploration and planning

* Collaboration with teachers, administrators and parents to provide individualized support for students

* Referrals to outside agencies

* Seeks school level support for evaluations for students with significant learning needs

* Assists with behavioral support

 

Counselor’s Provide Support Services if….

* You are having trouble accessing school supplies

* Your family needs assistance with food referrals, etc.

* Your child is having trouble adjusting to school or another situation

* Your child is experiencing behavioral difficulties

* Your family is going through a transition requiring support and etc.
