Welcome Back Nations Ford!

We have been hard at work this summer to prepare for a safe, fun, and productive 2022-2023 school year! We want to share our best information as you make preparations for the start of school. The first day of school for CMS students is Monday, August 29th, 2022.

Approved Calendar for 2022-2023

New to Nations Ford Registration Week-

Every student must be formally enrolled to attend school in CMS. I am asking your help to spread the word that any student not currently enrolled, please visit our school office between 10am-3pm next week Monday August, 8-Thursday, August 11. You can save time and multiple trips to the school if you have the correct documents needed to enroll. A complete enrollment packet is required for each student. Additionally, the enrollment packet includes a list of other documents needed for enrollment.  Links are provided in English and Spanish below for your convenience. Note that we are happy to make copies of documents at no charge to families during registration week! Help us out by telling your neighbors, friends, and families about our registration week!

Who is my child's teacher?

Once all enrollment has been received, we will be able to finalize class rosters and share information with families. This work is active and ongoing and more details will be shared in the near future. Continue to monitor ParentSquare and our school website for updated information. These are the two best places for most current information throughout the school year.

Will school be in person or virtual?

At this time, all students attending Nations Ford ES will attend school in person aligned with the 2022-2023 school calendar.

Are masks required?

No. Masks are optional at all CMS schools and facilities at this time.

How can I help Nations Ford continue to be the best school in CMS?

We need your help ensuring your child is at school each day! It is the highest leverage impact factor outside of the school's control. If they are not present, we cannot appropriately support their growth and development. Begin transitioning routines to support on time attendance each school day. Our Student Support Team will be prioritizing supporting families to adhere to North Carolina compulsory attendance law. Our school wide expectation is 97% of enrolled students are present each school day.

Would you consider participating on our School Improvement Team? We are looking for a parent representative from each grade level to ensure your voice is  included in the decisions and direction of our school year. Interested parents would work with school staff leaders at least once per quarter to hear school updates and set direction for school activities. We would love to work with you this school year as a part of our school improvement team!

Interested in learning more? Please contact Mr. Paquette via email or ParentSquare and include student grade level for the 2022-2023 school year! Thank you in advance!

When is Open House?
As always, we strongly encourage your participation in our back to school open house event. The goals of open house are to meet your teacher, greet new classmates, and orient students to their classroom. In an effort to afford everyone a safe visit with the attention deserved to you, we are offering staggered times.

What school supplies do I need to buy for my child to be successful?

NONE!!

Open House will be a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher, receive critical information, share contact information, and hear about our shared goals. In an effort to reduce the financial burden on families and ensure we have best contact information to keep you informed this school year, we look forward to equipping our students with all that they need for school supplies at this event! Parents/Guardians will have an opportunity to complete an emergency contact card for each student enrolled during this event. For each emergency contact information card filled out in entirety, the student(s) will receive a school supply kit including backpacks on-site. Said simply, there is no reason to purchase any school supplies for your child to experience success at Nations Ford Elementary School! We ask you to focus your back to school efforts in aligning with our school uniform expectations.

Are students required to wear school uniforms?

YES!!

Nations Ford is a place where scholars have limitless opportunities to experience academic, personal and social achievement.  School uniforms will further support the solid structures and processes that are being implemented to ensure that every child has unhindered opportunities to develop his or her individual platforms of personal excellence.  Additionally, school uniforms will support our unified vision of strength, excellence and leadership that surpasses all that our scholars and school community may hope for or dream.

Safety is our first priority in meeting the individual needs of our scholars.  Research has demonstrated that school uniforms are positively correlated with decreased incidents of school violence, bullying and other behaviors that may pose a direct threat to student safety.  Additionally, school uniforms will bring a sense of pride and school spirit to our campus, while helping to eliminate the real and perceived disparities amongst students based on race, color, creed, socio-economic status and academic standing that often lead to issues with student conduct and discipline.  We have already begun the work of launching a culture of legacy builders by establishing a sense of community and common purpose. Common school uniforms will further this quest as we fortify our school identity built on a solid foundation of scholars who will become leaders who refuse to be average, positively impacting their world today and every day.

Uniform Attire:
Uniforms are required for all scholars enrolled at Nations Ford Elementary School. School uniforms help us create the safest possible environment for our scholars.  All scholars are required to wear the school uniform every day, unless otherwise noted.  The Nations Ford uniform for scholars consists of:
  • Bottoms: Navy blue or Khaki (pants, shorts, skirts, jumpers, skorts, etc.) Shorts and skirts should be at least fingertip length. Scholars should not wear blue jeans of any kind.
  • Tops: Navy blue, light blue, or white tops.   All  tops must have a collar or must be a dress Shirts/blouses free of company logos.
  • Dresses:  Navy blue or black.  Dresses should be at least fingertip length.
  • Shoes: Scholars will be expected to wear shoes that have a closed toe and heel. Open-toe and open-heel shoes such as sandals and flip-flops are not permitted for safety reasons.
  • Belts:  Scholars will be expected to wear a dark-color belt with their uniforms, especially if their pants/shorts/skirts are a size or more too big.
  • Please note:  Scholars will not be allowed to wear hats, caps, hoods, or scarves inside the school building. Head coverings will only be permitted as they pertain to religious attire. Any distracting jewelry or accessories will not be allowed.  We strive to create a learning environment that is free from distraction.

Uniforms on Friday or Special Events

Scholars are to be in uniform Monday through Thursday in which school is in session. Parents have the option to allow school appropriate, non-uniform dress on each Friday and when special permission is granted by administration for Spirit and/or Picture days.  Parents will receive advanced notice of Spirit and/or Picture Days.

Jewelry:
Small articles of jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches) are permitted as long as they do not cause a distraction within the learning environment. Please be advised that the school cannot be responsible for lost, stolen or misplaced articles of jewelry.

Compliance:
It is the expectation of the Nations Ford family that all scholars will adhere to our school wide uniform policy.  It is further understood that parents will have been made fully aware of the expectations for school uniforms when enrolling their children in our school.  Our Student Services Team (SST) will work with families who may have a difficult time securing uniforms whenever possible.  The school will have a limited number of uniforms on hand as we receive donations from outside sponsors.  However, parents are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their child has appropriate school attire in alignment with the uniform policy. Our first priorities each and every day are to make sure that our scholars are safe and to ensure that they receive an excellent education without distractions or obstacles.  To that end, our goal is to have zero violations of the school uniform policy. However, if and when violations of the school uniform policy do occur the following actions will be taken to support our scholars and families in joining our unified vision of excellence:

OffenseUniform Violation Support for Scholar
FirstInquiry/Parent Phone Call
SecondParents will be called and asked to bring a uniform for the day.
ThirdParent Conference
Repeat OffendersDisciplinary consequence assigned by intervening administrator.  Counselor will reach out to see if there is any assistance we can give.

The Nations Ford Elementary School, School Leadership Team (SLT) as well as our Student Services Team (SST) will support our school uniform policy by advocating to community partners for donations and support in order that we might maintain a small uniform closet in the case of emergencies.  Further, our SLT  and SST will help to educate new parents about how our school wide uniform policy support our comprehensive school vision and provide them with community resources for buying/securing uniforms.

Wishing you restoration in the final weeks of summer break. Remember reading is not homework, it is life work! Read, Read, Read!

Mr. Paquette
