The Memorial Garden, located in front of the gym, is a special place dedicated to the memory of cardinal students that have left us far too soon. This year, the Memorial Garden was revitalized with the addition of a sculpture, new landscaping, and a mosaic.
The sculpture was designed by Ms. Burgher’s class during the 2018-2019 school year. Groups of students collaborated and created different design ideas and then the PTSA voted on the final model design. The sculpture symbolizes our Cardinal students “flying high” and honors the memories they’ve left with us. Iconix Metalworks graciously built and donated the sculpture to the school. Skye Harrel, POB Alum, was the project engineer with Iconix and current student Naomi Jackson assisted by rendering the sculpture design in AutoCAD. Ruppert Landscaping donated the amazing new landscape that includes new boulders and shrubs. They also worked closely with Iconix Metalworks to install the sculpture.
This year, Ms. Burgher’s art students collaborated to create the mosaic design using a variety of tiles and gems. The mosaic depicts the sky and rising sun in memory of our students. The mosaic materials were funded by the POB PTSA. Mr. Cruz Salada, POB parent, volunteered his time and expertise to install the mosaic with his Daughter and POB student, Stephanie. Finally, a new plaque was created to adorn the garden. The plaque lists the students we are remembering and cherishing since the opening of the school in 2003.
This revitalization project was truly a community effort. We are so appreciative of our community partners and volunteers!
