Dear River Gate Elementary families,
River Gate Elementary opened in 2009. It was built to relieve overcrowding at nearby Winget Park and Lake Wylie Elementary. River Gate's name, mascot and school colors were chosen by parents and students in the school. River Gate's name is derived from this area being referred to as the Gateway to the River and also from the River Gate shopping center. Our school feeds into neighboring Southwest Middle School and eventually our students will attend Olympic High School.
Some quick facts about River Gate:
- Average teaching experience for staff is 12 years
- More than half – 52 percent – of our staff have an advanced degree
- Nearly a third – 32 percent – of our staff are National Board-certified
- 12 years of average teaching experience on staff
- Our school supports nonprofits such as Pasta for Pennies, Loaves and Fishes and we have donated food from our school garden to Kings Kitchen
Our school staff members seek to empower students to develop a passion for lifelong learning and nurture them by engaging their intellect, emotions and natural curiosity. We seek to instill not only the objectives and skills specified by Common Core standards, but also to develop student competence and motivation that will enrich each life. Our daily work together includes creating a safe and supportive environment in which all learners can pursue academic and social learning experiences and fulfill their unique potentials.
Our parents and community are a huge part of the River Gate Elementary success. Parent involvement increases student achievement and enriches the school community. Please feel free to regularly volunteer inside/outside our classrooms. By doing so, our parents provide valued attention to students, teachers and the school community. As we build upon existing relationships and forge new ones, we collaboratively support the social, emotional and academic well-being of each child at River Gate Elementary. Together, we make tremendous progress for all.Our community partners embrace the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child. Through partnerships, our students and staff benefit from human and material resources to further develop the whole child. We are fortunate to partner with local businesses that believe in our school, students, and staff.
Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and River Gate Elementary.
