Tardy Scholars

The instructional day for scholars is from 8:15 am - 3:15 pm.  The CMS expectation is that scholars will be at school on time. Scholars should be in their classrooms before the tardy bell rings at 8:30 am.  Scholars who arrive after 8:30 am must be signed in at the front office by a parent and they must obtain a class admittance slip at that time. An announcement will be made for any scholars who arrive due to a late bus. Scholars who are tardy due to a late bus SHOULD NOT BE COUNTED TARDY.  We also ask that any scholars who arrive late due to a late bus should be provided with the option to receive breakfast in the cafeteria.

Exception:  Scholars who arrive on late buses are not counted as tardy.

Scholar Absences

In order to be successful in school, scholars must attend regularly.  When a child is absent, s/he is expected to bring a note written and signed by the parent on the day s/he returns to school, giving the reason and date of absence. Please send notes provided by parents to the registrar (the day you receive the note). This ensures that the scholar’s absence is coded correctly and reduces the chance that an attendance violation letter will be sent home.

Tardies:

When scholars arrive at school after 8:30 am, the scholar should report to the office for a tardy pass.  ALL ATTENDANCE SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY 10:00 AM EACH MORNING in PowerSchool.  If a scholar arrives after the attendance has been entered, the office will record this in the system if their parent has dropped them off. If they arrive on a late bus, it is the teacher’s responsibility to update attendance.

Early Dismissal of School For An Emergency

If school must dismiss early due to an emergency, teachers and parents will be notified.  Parents will be notified using the phone system for mass communication, called Connect-Ed.  This will enable us to call all of our families simultaneously.  It is therefore critical that teachers notify the front office secretary immediately if a parent’s contact information changes.  Please make every effort to collect the emergency dismissal information and the blue card during the first week of school.  A good time to ensure parents complete the form would be during our open house events.

Early Dismissal By Parents

Scholars are expected to remain at school until the instructional day ends at 3:15 pm.  Please notify the office if a parent sends a note or email requesting that a scholar be dismissed early. Scholars who are picked up before dismissal must be signed out by the office staff and it must be before 2:30 pm. Teachers may not dismiss scholars directly from the classroom. This would violate our Safe School Procedures.  Parents are asked to wait in the front office until their child has been dismissed unless approved by the administration for showcases or awards celebrations. In those situations, a checkout sheet will be provided and must be used. Parents may not go to the classroom during instructional hours unless an appointment has been scheduled prior and the front office will inform the teacher prior for confirmation. Please adhere to this procedure to ensure the safety of scholars and staff.
