Hello, Turning Point Academy Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Turning Point Academy. I am humbled to write this letter as the newly appointed principal. It is an honor to become a part of the Turning Point Academy Navigators family and community. Even though my interactions have been limited, it is abundantly clear that Turning Point Academy is full of dedicated and talented professionals who are eager to put the needs of all children before their own. I would be remised if I did not acknowledge Dr. Lisa Barnes and Mr. Reggie Coles and the Student Discipline Behavior Support team for all their hard work and advocacy on behalf of Turning Point Academy's scholars and staff. I could not ask for a better support system as we kick off an amazing school year of wins.
I hail from South Carolina as the daughter of Brenda Faye and Champ, the sister of Shayla, the niece of Edna, Eloise, Deb, Peggy, Claude, Joe, and Butch, the "uncle" to eleven second cousins, the Godmother to one second cousin, the first cousin of too many to count, and the sister-cousin to Jimola, Jimon, Jimmie, Jimiko, and Jimaki. My village also includes the in-laws of my aunts and uncles. I have over twenty years that of experience as a classroom teacher, EC Itinerant Coordinating Teacher, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. Prior to becoming an educator, I worked in therapeutic foster care as well as serving as a children's counselor in a battered women's shelter. As I reflect and think about this new assignment, I am more than convinced that my steps have been ordered in preparation for my role as principal.
I am more and more convinced each day that education is the key to success for all scholars and regardless of the reason, those who are afforded the opportunity to reset at Turning Point Academy deserve equitable instruction at high level. I am committed to leading our school team to ensure that your children are equipped academically, socially and emotionally so that they reach their highest potential.
Again, I am humbled to serve as the newly assigned principal of Turning Point Academy, and I look forward to meeting each of you. My door is always open, and I welcome your input and support. I am excited about the endless possibilities and the amazing things that we will accomplish together for our scholars, and I look forward to celebrating our collective success throughout the school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kimarcus Z. Lockhart
